When your starting out welding you will go through some contact tips. You will need to replace liners and contact tips. Get a Miller or Lincoln machine new or used and the reasoning is simple. Plus being I think they are a Hobart-built design, I know it will last long with proper use. Much more 'tunable' for different projects. Mine has 'infinite' wire speed, and like 6 heat settings. I know it is $200-$300 more from mine, but I like the way ypu can "upgrade" it later, and the one requirement I had for a welder when I bought this one was more than 2 Hi-Low switches for wire speed and heat. It can be converted to MIG with the purchase of a regulator and tank laer down the road if you want to get away from flux.Ī friend from work has one of those H-F ones, and wasn't too impressed with it.
#Harbor freight flux core welder cracked
but the welder I have used for many projects, including repairing a cracked frame on my F150, the front subframe on my Geo Metro, and many other odd jobs on trucks at work. Helmet was cheap - broke the hinges shortly after, gloves were ok. This is the one I bought, I waited til it was on sale with the Craftsman Club Member Card, got it for just over $300, with free helmet and free gloves.
